"Cage's Chess Pieces & Rieti's Chess Serenade" In 1944 Cage contributed his score-painting, Chess Pieces, to the surrealist show, "The Imaginary of Chess" in New York City. It was sold to a private collector. Recently rediscovered, the painting was reconstructed into a playable score by Ms. Tan. It receives its World Premiere here along with Rieti's work for the same exhibition. Both with full performance video. "John Cage's Prepared Piano" An in-depth documentary on the history of the prepared piano. Margaret Leng Tan demonstrates how to prepare the piano for Sonatas and Interludes and Bacchanale and performs excerpts showing how the various preperations affect the sound of the piano. "Cage: Music / Art / Chess" Margaret Leng Tan and Larry List, curator of "The Imaginary of Chess Revisited" exhibition, explore Cage's score-painting and Rieti's Chess Serenade in detail, as well as the relationship between the Surrealists and chess. Includes a special feature on Cage's wife, Xenia, and her contribution to "The Imaginary of Chess" show. "John Cage's Box of Preparations" The first-ever documented glimpse into Cage's actual "Box of Preparations", containing the objects which he used to prepare the piano for Sonatas and Interludes in the 1940s. Ms. Tan examines the contents and comments on various preparations in detail - and discovers many surprises!
