The Swiss photographer, Loan Nguyen (born 1977), accompanies her father to Vietnam, the country he left thirty-eight years ago. Her images of his reunions with old friends, as well as her shots of the landscape, are fascinating, often touched with melancholy and always poetical. Loan Nguyen describes how she experienced her father Khiem on this journey through his lost homeland – his fear, his joy and his encounters. At the same time she reveals what she herself experienced and felt. She observes a familiar, yet foreign, country which is also her own and comes to know herself better in the process.
